Maui - Day 3

The next morning, we headed down to Makena Beach, one of my all time favorites!

We had a wonderful time here, but we also had a close call with Carolyn! She was out bobbing in the waves with Jeremiah and Aaron and got ripped away from both of them when a huge set of waves came in! I was standing at the water's edge with Isaiah and could see my daughter getting swallowed up by waves, being tossed to and fro. She appeared to remain remarkably calm, as far as I could see, and kept trying to right herself and get above the surface to swim toward shore. But right when she'd make progress, another wave would come and swallow her up again! It was terrifying! I kept yelling and screaming, "Get her! Hurry!!" There were very few other people on the beach, but one man nearest to us was getting ready to run in and help, just when Aaron was able to get ahold of her. It was a rough ride in, because a huge wave slammed them into the sand right as they were getting to shore. But we were so glad everyone was safe and back on the shore!

Other than that one minute of terror, the morning was lovely!

After a morning of fun in the sun, we went back to our condo in Kihei to clean up and pack for our move up to Ka'anapali, where we would spend the next week.

We stopped at Costco on the way up to West Maui to enjoy lunch in the Costco food court and stock up on groceries for the duration of our trip. When we were putting all the goods in our vehicles, a man on a motorcycle asked us if we would like some avocados. He said his yard was full of avocados, and we were welcome to take the ones in his pack so he could fit in the items he'd just purchased inside Costco. We gladly accepted them and enjoyed huge, delicious avocados all week long!

We checked in to our amazing resort, the Westin Ka'anapali Resort Villas, in the afternoon. We had heard and read many amazing things about this resort, and it didn't disappoint!

The common area in the middle of our unit, comprised of the kitchen, dining, and living room. To the left was Aaron and Lisa's master suite, which had a door to the balcony, plus an enormous bathroom. To the right was our family's mini-suite, which included a kitchenette and bed space for all of us, plus a nice bathroom with a jetted-tub and separate shower. Our large group was very comfortable in these accommodations.

We enjoyed beautiful views from our room and lanai.
Isaiah tried on Carolyn's new snorkel set we picked up at Costco (her other one having been lost in some waves that morning).

The kids enjoyed this pirate ship pool!
We loved the view from our unit!
